Birmingham's Catholic Partnership - Promoting the Common Good
Catholic secondary schools in Birmingham work together to ensure that the education received in a Catholic school is of the highest quality, not only academically but also spiritually. The core purpose of Birmingham's Catholic Partnership is to promote the Common Good, as outlined by the Bishops of England and Wales. By working together in the spirit of the Gospel message the achievements of the whole Partnership far exceed the sum of the individual member schools.
Partnership schools work closely together at all Key Stages, examining curriculum issues, supporting students and organising joint social and cultural activities. Our schools are staffed by outstanding and committed staff. Teachers and support staff are highly trained and meet regularly to plan and share ideas or resources. Students benefit from an extensive programme of curriculum and staff development which supports our schools in raising achievement and in providing a high level of spiritual and pastoral care.
Students collaborate and participate in a range of activities. Events include: Young Leaders' Course, Gaelic Football, PE and Technology Events, Maths 24 Game Challenge, 'Spring History Challenge', Sixth Form Debates, shared liturgies, peer counselling and joint charitable ventures to forge links with local, national and global charities.
The Catholic Partnership office, based at Don Bosco House in Coleshill in the same building housing the Diocesan RE Department, provides efficient administrative support in facilitating links between the schools for staff, as well as organising student events. The office also liaises with other agencies including the Archdiocese, the Primary Partnership and Birmingham LEA.
As a Partnership we are proud to work with Birmingham LEA where schools have improved significantly. Partnership schools are characterised by high expectations, and high attainment, with results improving at a faster rate than both the LEA and national averages. The rate of improvement at A level in the last three years was almost three times the national average.
A high percentage of students continue their studies beyond GCSE and begin Post 16 courses. Extensive careers advice and higher education guidance are given to ensure that students and parents are fully supported in making informed choices and in recognition of all our students as individuals. Law, medicine, teaching, scientific research, technology, nursing and accountancy are careers aspired to and achieved by Partnership students.
Applications to Partnership schools are made through the normal LEA secondary transfer arrangements. The Governing Body of each school has its own admissions criteria.
Partnership schools are underpinned by the same principles and gospel values and work with the LEA and the Diocese to offer a place for every Catholic child in Birmingham.
